DESCRIPTION:Spring is here\, and we are excited about the 7th gardening season of the NEEC. Our volunteers are very enthusiastic and eager to meet the new challenge of exceeding our 2021 produce record. \nAs in the last two years\, we will start working at the 94 Pine Street Community Garden at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. We have a lot of things to do in advance in our 16 associated community gardens and environmental projects. Let’s get started! \nARE YOU LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES? \nNEEC Community Gardens and Environmental Projects: \n\nSanctuary Demonstration Community Garden\, 40 South Fullerton Avenue\, Montclair\, NJ 07042.Basic regular tasks: a) Planting; b) Filling the rain barrel; c) Watering; d) Harvesting.\n\n\nOccasionally tasks: a) Adding soil to the beds; b) Adding compost; c) Weeding; d) Preparing the garden for the winter. Note: Filling the rain barrel\, needs to be coordinated with J. German\n\nCurrently Growing: Planting in progress \n\nMaster Gardeners opportunities to oversee the project and lead the volunteers – Twice a week for 1.5 hours – Two Master Gardeners can take one shift each.\n\n \n\nCrane Pak Demonstration Garden\, Glenridge Avenue\, Montclair\, NJ 07042. Basic regular tasks: a) Planting; b) Watering; and c) Harvesting.\n\n\nOccasionally tasks: a) Adding soil to the beds; b) Adding compost; c) Weeding; d) Preparing the garden for the winter. Note: Other tasks must be coordinated with David Wasmuth\nCurrently Growing: Planting in progress\nMaster Gardeners opportunities to oversee the project and lead the volunteers – Twice a week for 1.5 hours – Two Master Gardeners can take one shift each.\n\n \n\nPine Street Community Garden\, 94 Pine Street\, Montclair\, NJ 07042. Basic regular tasks: a) Planting; b) Watering; and c) Harvesting; d) Monitoring the composting site; e) Organizing the greenhouse.\n\n\nOccasionally tasks: a) Adding soil to the beds; b) Adding compost; c) Weeding; d) Preparing the garden for the winter. Need to be planted\, since only less than half of the garden is planted.\n\n \n\nNew Cooper Avenue Community Garden\, Cooper Avenue\, Montclair\, NJ 07043. Basic regular tasks: a) Planting; b) Watering; and c) Harvesting; d) Monitoring the composting site; Occasionally tasks: a) Adding soil to the beds; b) Adding compost; c) Weeding; d) Preparing the garden for the winter. Note: Other tasks must be coordinated with Jose German\n\n Currently Growing: Need to be planted \n\nSprouting Totowa Community Garden\, Totowa\, NJ – Associated Community Garden – Volunteers need to coordinate with Garden Leader.\nWatchung School\, Montclair\, NJ – New Garden in progress.\nKinnelon Middle School Community Garden\, Kinnelon\, NJ – Associated Community Garden.\nGreen Acres Community Garden\, Rosa Park Blvd\, Paterson\, NJ – Associated Community Garden – Volunteers need to coordinate with Garden Leader.\nMontclair High School Farm-to-Table Community Garden\, Montclair\, NJ – In progress – Associated Community Garden\nOrganic Villagers Community Garden\, 16th Street\, Paterson\, NJ – Associated Community Garden – Volunteers need to coordinate with Garden Leader\,\nEast Orange Community Garden – Associated Community Garden\nMontclair High School Community Garden at Rand Park\, Montclair\, NJ – Associated Community Garden\nBrookdale Overlook Spring Restoration Garden\, Montclair/Bloomfield\, NJ – Volunteer opportunities under the supervision of the head of the project only.\n\n\nMaster Gardeners opportunities for the preparation of the garden for the season.
