GARDENING FOR POLLINATORS

June 27, 2020 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am

Learn the basics for creating a beautiful garden with year-around interest that supports beleaguered pollinators.

Pollinators play an essential ecological role, but they are in trouble. There is much you can do in your own yard to throw them a lifeline. A well-designed pollinator garden will add beauty, interest, and ecological value to your property. This webinar will take a seasonal approach to creating a pollinator garden, recommending native plants and gardening practices that provide food and habitat for bees, butterflies, and moths throughout their life cycles. Topics will include host plants for different pollinators, recommended nectar plants, seasonal plantings, native groundcovers, and basic pollinator-friendly practices.

About the speaker: David Wasmuth is a Montclair, NJ, environmentalist, Rutgers Environmental Steward, founder of the Montclair Backyard Habitat Project, and NEEC Board member. His recent projects include assisting in the creation of Montclair’s Crane Park Demonstration Pollinator Garden and and designing and developing a pollinator garden in Essex County’s Brookdale Park.

Sponsored by the Helen and William Mazer Foundation.
